creative resolution no.1 - stocktake

I spend more time looking for things than I do making things. I have collected so much stuff over the last couple of years I can barely remember where it all is.

Surprise, surprise, I have been tidying up....again. I want to make everywhere look lovely for the festivities and also 'my room' appears to have become 'our room'. I don't mind but it has become a glorified cupboard full of all sorts of random objects.

I spent three hours in here last night and realised that I need to get obsessive and create a stash-take. I have art materials, sewing materials, knitting stuff, 4 sewing boxes, a gazillion dpns, baskets stuffed with random yarn and a pile of work I did for college all those months ago that really don't need to be kept for posterity.

I have also become a collector of fabric. I spend my days on high alert for fabric sourcing opportunities. Result? A cupboard full of lovely vintage (and not so vintage) gorgeousness.

I have complained to my darling husband for years about his little-piece-of-wood-hoarding and now, I have become a similar beast, amassing little bits of fabric and yarn that one day will be transformed into something someone somewhere needs. Until then they remain in the cupboard (s) and basket (s) challenging me to actually do something.

I can feel another craft resolution coming on. That's another post all in itself.

So, over the next few weeks, I am going to divide and rule and start a list of items I have collected with a view to making and creating next year. The first of my creative resolutions for 2009.

It must be fun re-discovering all sorts of loveliness that has been hidden - to touch, admire and contemplate. Sounds like 2009 will be a very creative year.

So funny! I can totally relate to the craft resolution and over abundance of craft "stuff" yet somehow when I sit down t create there is always one thing needed that I just don't seem to have. Love your blog.
