beret nice

It was a cold winter's night...there were 12 of us in all. Our regular knitting/crafting session (still, officially, nameless) took place last night. There's a new landlord at the pub and, well, I was a little nervous. I needn't have worried both landlord and lady were very welcoming and I had a sneaky suspicion that the former will be joining us in the near future.

We had a couple of newbies with us - a recent convert and a visitor all the way from Malmesbury. Word is definitely spreading. I'd put the group on the UK Handknitting website and that's how D found us.

We had lots of interest from the skittlers and the neighbourhood watchers too. I think 2009 is going to be the year of the knit in our little village. We shall see!

Projects on the go included: fingerless gloves, socks (2 pairs), berets (2), slippers, a mug cozy and a cushion cover. There was also a christmas card writer, a bookmaker and some button sewing happening. We're not a strictly knitting group. Maybe that should be our name!

Not Strictly Knitting?

Strictly Crafting?

I managed to knit a beret in the 2 and a half hours we were there. It was very easy, very soft and slightly small. I'm sure someone, somewhere will love it.

OK, OK. Make me feel COMPLETELY incompetent! I know I was only there for half an hour, but I managed a couple of rows on the bedspread square I was knitting last April. Love the idea of going bi-weekly. My suggestion for a group name is Stitch and Swig. Whaddayasay? Berets? I live and dream...

Twas a grand crafty night - I think we even might have a commuter from Gozo and the card writer even mention bringing needles next time!

Like you mention though we're Not Strictly Knitting which I think has a certain ring to it and no 'knit offs' will be required ....
